Avery Thompson brings over two decades of decorated service in law enforcement and investigative leadership to his role with Denali Defense Solutions. During his career with the Fairbanks Police Department, he rose to the rank of Detective, where he led major crime investigations, developed expertise in digital forensics, and became the first officer in Alaska to apply for and receive a wiretap authorization and configure a modern lawful wiretap system. He has been recognized as a subject matter expert in both drug distribution and digital forensics by the Alaska Court System. His dedication and impact earned him numerous commendations, including the U.S. Attorney General’s Award and multiple valor and service medals. He has worked closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Administration, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, United States Marshals Service, Department of Homeland Security, US Army Criminal Investigation Division, and the US Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
Transitioning into higher education and compliance, Avery served as Captain of the University of Alaska Police Department and as the Clery Compliance Specialist, where he spearheaded cybersecurity improvements, modernized emergency communications systems, and trained institutional leaders on federal mandates such as Title IX, VAWA, and the Clery Act. His leadership bridged technical expertise with policy reform, ensuring institutional accountability and public safety.
